DAY 73: WOW...WOW....WOW....WOW....WOW

DAY 73:  Lasal Mountain, Moab, Utah - September 11, 2010

You guys are going to LOVE where I take you today!!!

We started the morning out by taking Murphy for a little ride around the canyons.....he loved it!  He deserved it, too; he has learned a new trick while on this journey........actually, its less of a trick and more of  "something he should have been doing all along"......... He now will sit on the top step of the RV (opposed to running straight out the door) until I say, "Come On".   Now, I know our friend and ex-neighbor, Mike Browne, is probably laughing right now saying, "What??  Uno was born doing this...." and yes, I must agree with Mike, however, Murphy has Chuck and Liz as parents and Uno has Mike and Kim.    That being said, this is a BIG step for Murphy....

Anyway, wanted to show you some of the beautiful, unusual and awe-inspiring scenery we are surrounded by here in Moab, Utah as well as tell you a little bit about Moab.

Some historians believe Moab, Utah came to use this name because of the first postmaster here who believed that the biblical Moab and this part of Utah were both "the far country" (whatever that means).  However, others believe the name has indian origins, referring to the word "moapa" meaning mosquito.  Personally, I think they should have named the town "Flyapa" cause of the millions of flies around here......!

But this afternoon, while Chuck waited at the RV for the mirror-repair-guy, Liz went out on a solo ride through the canyons.  All I can say is, WOW...WOW...WOW...around every turn, every corner.....another WOW.......

Now, speaking of the mirror-repair-guy, his name is Jason and he fixed my side mirror boo-boo today.  Yesterday, he ordered the new mirror arm from Monaco, had it overnighted to us and today he installed it.  His total charge:  $50.  What a GREAT guy!  And if you look at the picture closely, you'll see he only has one arm.....he was electrocuted when he was 4 which caused him to lose his arm.   I call Jason our Angel-of-Mercy-Mirror-Repair-Guy.....

Tomorrow we're saying goodbye to our new friend and neighbor, Jim, who made me cry yesterday and to beautiful Moab then heading on down the road to Durango, Colorado.....

So, get a good nights sleep......tomorrow's going to be a beautiful day.......well, unless I hit something while squeezing the RV out of this tight spot we're in.......

If I remember correctly (which there is a distinct possibility I'm getting it all wrong), Moab was a center (and may still be) of polygamous Mormon marriages. The families live in a secured compound which does not allow for outside contact - unless someone, usually a teenager, escapes.

What God must have been thinking when he built Utah. What gorgeous, awesome sights! Can't wait to see them on big screen!!

Seeing that picture of Murphy made me miss him so much! Can't wait to see him. (of course you and Chuck also!)

Liz ... Incredible pictures!

While in Durango, if you see the “Balcony Bar and Grill” .... don’t know how big Durango is ... you must go in and say hello to my dear friend Jeff Wall. He’s about 32 ... 33. He was the sweetest little hellion that grew up next door to me in Dallas and now looks like a Mountain Man!! I believe he just opened the grill about 6 months ago. Hope he’s still in business!! If you see him, give him a big hug for me, and send me a pic!!
