DAY 5: I Touched and Smelled Heaven Today......

July 8, 2011 - Pikes Peak
TEMP:  43 Degrees

I think I touched and smelled Heaven today......

As Chuck and I climbed higher and higher towards the 14,000 foot summit of Pikes Peak on the motorcycle today; perhaps for the last time; it seemed as though the colors below us became more vibrant; the smells of the pine trees became amazingly stronger and I.......well I was so close to Heaven that I could feel God's hand reaching down and touching mine.

There is just something about the mountains that calms my soul.......I don't feel it anywhere else I've ever been.....and this is especially true of the mountains in Colorado.  The air is fresh and crisp; the sky is bluer than blue and I have always felt as though I could simply reach up and God could "high five" me at any moment.

Chuck and I sat on the top of the world today and watched people come and go; most with cameras around their necks; some dragging their kids behind them; some helping their elderly spouse manuever the rocks and high altitude thin air; and it was like I was watching one of those movies where you are sitting still and the world around you is moving in fast forward.  I looked at my dear, sweet husband who has blessed my life in so many ways, as he struggles to put one foot in front of the other, and I thank God for placing me in this exact spot, at this exact moment, next to this exact person.

Oh how blessed am I..........

Can't help but writing you funnies that you're always reminding me of on this trip. When I was about 2 or 3--Mother, Daddy and I went to Pike's Peak. On the way up--on one of those hair-pin turns--my teddy bear fell out the window--and I screamed 'til they could find a place to turn around and rescue him. They loved telling that tale! You're not missing a thing here--just hot! I know how you feel about loving the mountains--just have to feel them sometimes. Not as often, but sometimes--I have to hear the ocean roar, too! Hugs, MJ

Your first two paragraphs say what I have been saying since I moved to Colorado, and sum up my broken heart for leaving in 2004!!!!

Enjoy!!!!! Travel safely!!! (visit Steamboat if you get the chance!)

I just have to answer this. To hear from you and your thoughts are such a blessing. You are going to like our new pastor. Last week in Bible study we talked about how you can worshhip God anywhere. You & Chuck just proved that. Jack (pastor) said he wanted us to be aware that everything we do shd. be worshiping God. Think about that. Makes you think about what you might be doing sometime.
from throwing out a cuss word, or whatever. Of course, we as sinners, yeah, ...... but we can (me) make promices and work really hard on it.

Blessed and recognizing it.

A lot of us don't see our blessing except in our rear view mirror. We could
learn from you to enjoy our blessings as they occur.

That being said ...... I'm trying to find the blessing in our 105 degree days.
Any suggestions?
