Today we removed the rock holding up the right side of the RV in Custer, SD and hit the road for Spearfish, SD on the northern edge of the Black Hills National Forest......
One thing I have been pleasantly surprised about South Dakota is its beauty. This is truly a drop-dead gorgeous state!! Why has no one told the rest of the states about South Dakota??
As we traveled up and then down the 2-lane mountainous roads leading to Spearfish, I was feeling a bit of the heebie-jeebies due to the narrow roads, traffic piling up behind me and the fact that my unreliable gas gauge went from 1/4 full to 1/4 empty and then back to 1/4 full......errrrrrrrrr.....
Chuck, helmet on, took a ride on his Harley. |
We then came into the cute little town of Deadwood. Now, Deadwood is named due to dead trees in its gulch. That's kinda strange.....It's famous for the murder of Wild Bill Hickok and the final resting place for Calamity Jane. But it's most importantly known for the the place where Chuck and Liz found gas! YEA! So those two lane mountain roads with traffic backing up behind me didn't bother me one bit the rest of the way to Spearfish!
We've not actually seen this yet.....but we did see.... |
We arrived in beautiful Spearfish and set up camp (didn't need to use the rock today). As we read about and discovered all the beautiful waterfalls and places to go and see in Spearfish, Chuck suggested we hop on the motorcycle and head on out and find some of the highlights.....such as......
