July 20, 2011 - Salida, Colorado
TEMP: 84 Degrees
As we were riding the 30 miles to Salida today on the trike, we passed an old pickup truck with two guys in it. Shortly after passing it, they sped up and were now beside us. As we glanced over, we see the two guys in the truck practically hanging out the window with their thumbs up and great big smiles on their faces.
This has happened to us more times than we can count, I'm happy to say.
This incident got me to thinking that you might be "wondering" how Chuck feels about always being the passenger and letting a "girl" drive......yes, I called myself a "girl"......get over it.....
Although I think 99% of guys out there would be feeling a little de-masculinated (I just made up that word) riding behind their wife on a motorcycle, my Charlie is the 1% that doesn't. Thank goodness.
He has always held his head up high, encouraged me to open my helmet when going into a populated area so everyone can see its a "girl" driving and returned the "thumbs up" each time it has happened to us. He's actually been working on putting a DVD player on the back of my helmet so he can watch movies while on those long trips in the middle of nowhere (like yesterday!)......
He has always bragged on me to other men and has never once been embarrassed or felt any less a man by me doing the driving. It's amazing, really. I've never known a man as secure with being a man as my Charlie is..........
See, my Charlie has Multiple Sclerosis for those of you who don't know. This affects his ability to "feel" the shifter or brake with his feet which, otherwise, would not allow him to ever ride a motorcycle again.
I simply consider it a gift in "trust" to me.......

Aww ! Another touching story. Your Charlie is a lucky man to have someone as sweet as you Liz !
D
As always, you are wonderful and you two make an amazing couple.. I thank God for you and your lives together........... you enrich our lives..
Thanks Liz for all the info. I never feel de-masculinated if a "girl" does something for me, more than often girls do better than a man...why, girls used two sides of the brain, we "men" only use one, and we think we know it all AOL!! you are a blessing to Charlie.....and what a way to cruise!!

You are a lovely couple! I am proud to say I know you (even if only though this media). And some day I do hope to be able to travel a bit, because you seem to have so much fun doing it.
Thanks,
Judy Boyles,
You must have a camera on your head at all times. How do you get these pictures and drive at the same time? Love it. I’m still a ‘girl’ too! J You won’t catch me driving one of those things, however. You’ve got more guts than I do!! Have a nice day and carry on!!
Hugs,
Kathy
Didn't know you had a "hippie" riding behind you though....LOL
